Application Procedures and Requirements

Please Review the Following Information Prior to Completing Your Application

1. Follow the instructions in the Employment Application. Applications are accepted for open positions only. You may apply for more than one position at a time. A completed application must be submitted for each position applied for. If you are applying for a position which requires special testing (e.g., a typing test) you must take and pass the appropriate test(s) as required. If assistance is required, either in filling out the application or special accommodations, please consult the Human Resources staff.
    
2. Qualifications given in the job description posted on the job line, bulletin board, and through the Texas Workforce Commission represent only the minimum qualifications necessary to perform the essential functions of the job. Interview preference is given to the most qualified applicants, who may possess more specific education and/or experience than is given in a particular job description. Educational requirements may be satisfied by any equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
    
3. When you submit your application to the Human Resources Office, it should clearly describe how you meet the minimum requirements (education, experience, and knowledge, skills and abilities) listed on the job posting. Resumes and attachments will be accepted for whatever information they contain, but not in place of a completed application. Interview selection will be based on the information you provide on the application.
    
4. If the job description indicates that a valid Texas driver license is required for the position, your driving record must meet or surpass City of Longview guidelines which are available upon request. If you have a question or concern about your driving record, please consult the Human Resources staff prior to completing the application.
    
5. Your application will not be referred to the hiring department if you do not possess the minimum qualifications for the position, or if you fail to indicate such on your application. Terms of employment are listed on the last page of the application to ensure you are aware of them as an applicant. Application referral requires that you, as an applicant, read, understand, and agree with all terms of employment.
    
6. If you do possess the minimum qualifications your application will be referred to the hiring supervisor who will review the application. If you are selected for a personal interview, you will be contacted by the hiring supervisor.
    
7. If selected for employment, all information listed on the application and/or resume is subject to verification. A false statement or omission may result in disqualification for employment or discharge, if employed. For certain positions, written examination, panel interview, polygraph examination and/or physical agility test may be required. After a conditional offer of employment, a physical and/or psychological test may also be required prior to a confirmed offer of employment and beginning work.
    
8. Once the position is filled, you may receive a letter of notification advising you of the status of the position.
